We, the undersigned residents and supporters of North Oak Cliff, ask the City of Dallas to turn the decommissioned Jefferson Bridge ramps into a public space that serves our community.
As outlined in our Open Letter to City of Dallas officials, this is a rare opportunity to reuse existing infrastructure to create lasting public benefit for our neighborhood and the city as a whole.
Our goal is simple: one connected green path linking Lake Cliff Park and Founders Park to the Trinity River corridor, with safe walking and biking access to Downtown. This vision includes open green space, gathering areas, small-scale amenities where appropriate, access points to the Trinity River corridor, and redesigned connecting roadways that calm traffic and protect adjacent neighborhoods.
We are concerned that current redevelopment plans may move forward without fully incorporating this neighborhood vision. If decisions are made without clear public support, this opportunity could be lost.
We respectfully ask the City to:
- Transfer the decommissioned ramp structures and related Dallas Water Utilities infrastructure to Parks & Recreation.
- Empower Parks & Recreation to lead planning for the open space, traffic-calmed connecting roadways, and Trinity River corridor access amenities.
- Ensure strong and ongoing neighborhood input as plans move forward.
This is our opportunity to create lasting public space and a safer, more connected, and more recreational Oak Cliff.
