To the Government and Public Authorities of South Africa,
We, the undersigned, call on South African authorities to reject xenophobia and ensure that migrants, refugees, and foreign nationals are not blamed for the country’s economic and social challenges.
Unemployment, poverty, inequality, crime, and failures in public services are complex problems that require effective governance and long-term solutions. Scapegoating migrants does not solve these problems. Instead, it risks increasing discrimination, hostility, and violence within our communities.
We urge national and local authorities to protect all people from xenophobic violence and intimidation, enforce the law fairly, and address the real causes of unemployment, poverty, and inadequate public services.
South Africa’s challenges should be confronted through accountability, responsible policymaking, and social cooperation—not by turning vulnerable communities against one another.
We call on our leaders to stand firmly against xenophobia and to promote dignity, safety, and equal protection under the law for everyone living in South Africa.
